World Disabled Week is being observed in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) with a variety of activities.

To mark the occasion, a cortege was realized in the capital Lefkoşa under the slogan “No Barriers to Sharing Life”.

Young adults attending the Girne, Güneşköy and İrfan Nadir Over 18 Rehabilitation Centres affiliated to the Social Services Department organized a cortege with the slogan “No Barriers to Sharing Life” within the framework of activities marking World Disabled Week which is observed between the 10th and 16th of May.

President Ersin Tatar and the Minister of Labour and Social Security Hasan Taçoy also attended the cortege.

Speaking prior to the walk, President Ersin Tatar said that as the State of the TRNC are working continuously in order to ease the lives of people with disabilities and to enable them to benefit from all the opportunities in the country.

Reminding that the rights of disabled people are protected with the law enacted in 2010, Tatar noted that all institutions and organizations of the country must provide the best service for its disabled citizens.

He said that these efforts are also carried out by the committee established within the Presidency.

The Minister for Labour and Social Security Hasan Taçoy for his part stated that he will always follow the developments taking place on the unimpeded life project, which is under the responsibility of his Ministry.

Taçoy emphasized that their goal is to eliminate differences and to minimize the future concerns of these individuals.

Emphasizing that the Barrier Free Living Housing Project was among his priorities, Minister Taçoy said that the housing facility, which is under the responsibility of the Vakıflar Administration, will be opened in the near future.
