Turkish Cypriot Businessman İsmet Besim has donated £10,000 to the Champion Angels Society.

Besim who is originally from Gazimağusa but who has been living in the UK for long years said that the loss of life in the February 6 earthquake was the greatest tragedy the Turkish Cypriot people have experienced to date.

Gazimağusa born businessman İsmet Besim donated £10,000 to the Champion Angels Society which aims to keep the memory of the Gazimağusa Türk Maarif College Volleyball teams who perished in the February 6 earthquake in Adıyaman, Türkiye alive.

Explaining that he had followed the developments and the funerals from Bayrak Radio Television’s broadcasts, Besim said that he was deeply shaken by the tragedy and loss of life.

He added that he was making the donation in memory of his late mother Mesude Besim and the in name of his father İsmet Besim who was Gazimağusa’s first district officer.

The Society’s General Secretary Osman Akın who lost both of his sons in the earthquake thanked Besim for his support.

“The donation is the biggest made so far to the society,” Akın said, adding that the money will be used to realize the education campus project the society plans to bring to life.

Akın said that their aim was to create not just a school but an education campus that will create an ideal learning environment for generations to follow.
