The 30th of August Victory Day will be marked in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus alongside Türkiye on Friday.

This year marks the 102nd anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar, which was the final battle in the Turkish War of Independence led by the founder of modern Türkiye Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The 30th of August Victory Day celebrations will begin on Friday with the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Yasin Ekrem Serim accepting well wishers together with the Commander of the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus Major General Sabahattin Kılınç at 8:45 at the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Regiment’s Officers’ Mess in Ortaköy.

Meanwhile two separate events will also be held in the capital Lefkoşa on Friday to mark the occasion.

The first will be held in front of the Atatürk Monument where wreaths will be placed, a minutes silence will be observed and flags will be raised to the national anthem.

The second ceremony will be the military parade at the Doctor Fazıl Küçük Boulevard at 10am.

Similar ceremonies will also be held in Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt, İskele and Lefke to mark the day.

All public offices for the exception of essential services will be closed on Friday.

Meanwhile, on August 30, the section of the Dr Fazıl Küçük Boulevard between the Alpet Petrol lights intersection and the Gönyeli roundabout will be closed to traffic from 07.00 am onwards due to the main parade.

The road will remain closed until the end of the ceremony.

Two ships from the Turkish navy, the TCG Bozcada (F-500) and the TCG Tarsus which are docked off the TRNC’s ports will be open to the public.

The Bozcada is docked off Gazimağusa while the Tarsus is docked off Girne.
