According to a statement from the President’s Office, during the visit, Tatar stated that the acceptance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) as an observer member in 2022 in Samarkand was a turning point.
He also stressed that this step also enabled the representation of institutions and organizations in various countries.
Highlighting the importance of this for the visibility of the TRNC, the President noted that these steps send a message to the world that there are two separate states and two separate peoples in Cyprus.
Tatar also expressed his belief that the Turkic Union would contribute to all Turkic states.
Referring to the unity of the alphabet, he added that this was an important step and a development that would encourage linguistic unity.
The President also congratulated Turkish President Erdoğan for this initiative.
Stressing that the Turkic Union was an important value in times of polarization, President Tatar stated that he closely followed all efforts in this regard and congratulated everyone involved in these efforts.
Tatar also extended his thanks to the TÜRKPA officials for their support and closeness shown to the Turkish Cypriots.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler also received the TÜRKPA delegation.
“41 years ago, in this building, we experienced one of the most meaningful days of our independence and struggle. The declaration of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus took place in this historic building. We are pleased to have the TÜRKPA delegation here as part of the celebrations” Öztürkler said.
Recalling that the process of integrating TRNC into TÜRKPA was initiated in 2023, Öztürkler expressed that their greatest wish was for permanent membership to be achieved as soon as possible.
The Parliamentary Speaker also stressed that they would continue to protect the TRNC, keep their calls for its recognition around the world, and strengthen their position as they move forward.
For his part, TÜRKPA Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er extended his congratulations to the Turkish Cypriot people on their holiday.
He also congratulated Öztürkler on his election as the President of the Assembly, saying, “I am happy to be here with you in the Parliament, the place where the will of the people is manifested.”
Er noted that the TRNC’s participation in the work of the international organization TÜRKPA had contributed to strengthening their efforts and added more power to the organization.
