13 artists honoured with service awards on World Art Day

13 artists who were deemed worthy of the “Lifetime Service Award for Culture and Arts” as part of events marking April 15, World Art Day received their awards at a ceremony on Monday.

The Department of Culture which operates under the Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment organised the “3rd Lifetime Services for Culture and Arts Award” as part of events marking April 15 World Art Day.

13 artists received their awards at a ceremony.

This year, Emin Çizenel, Güner Pir, Hikmet Uluçam, İsmet Tatar, Salih Mustafa Çizel and Türksal İnce received awards in the field of painting.

Feridun Işıman received an award in both music and painting, Aydın Hikmet received an award in the field of music, İlkay Adalı, Feriha Altıok and Ayşe Tural received an award in the field of literature, and Musa Kayra and Serhan Gazioğlu received an award in the field of caricature.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu pointed out how valuable art and artists were and said that they should be appreciated and supported not only on one day but every day.

Also speaking at the award ceremony, President Ersin Tatar said that he has always attached importance to art and artists and pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot people have raised artists who have left their mark on the world.

Tatar also emphasized that isolation, embargoes and restrictions are ‘invalid’ in art and culture.

Stating that the state should do whatever it can to support art and artists; Tatar reiterated that art is a very important tool in terms of integrating Turkish Cypriots with the rest of the world.
