130 musicians from various countries performed in Girne on Sunday

The Winds of Rotary Concert, where 130 musicians from Cyprus, Germany and various parts of the world took to the stage, was held in Girne on Sunday night.

The concert, produced by Turgay Hilmi, consists of Bach, Beethoven, Andrew L. Webber and Kamran Aziz compositions.

The concert was transmitted live to the whole world within the scope of Bayrak Radio Television’s 60th anniversary events.

The Winds of Rotary Concert, with its huge ensemble of 130 musicians from various countries mainly from Cyprus and Germany, took to the stage on Sunday at the Girne Amphitheatre.

The concert was held for the benefit of the SOS Children’s Village and the Cyprus Turkish Orthopaedic Disabled Association.

The concert produced by artist Turgay Hilmi, was realized with the contribution of the Girne Municipality, Rotary Club of Girne Cosmopolitan and the District Governor’s Office of Roth within the scope of cultural cooperation of Girne City and Province of Georgensgmünd, Germany.

BRT and Genç TV provided media sponsorship and sporting institutions contributed to the event.

From Germany the Symphonic Wind Orchestra Georgensmünd and the German Rotary Choir performed and from North Cyprus the Vox Africa Choir, Cyprus Artists and soloists Gözlem Özdeğirmenci, Eser Öktem, Zübeyde Yıldız and Nice Kabeya took to the stage.

The concert was conducted by Turgay Hilmi, Elke Völker and Jens Lohmüller and featured works from Bach, Beethoven, Morricone and Andrew Webber.

During the event, plaques of appreciation were presented to the sponsors who contributed to the realization of the concert, the concert conductors and soloists.

Speaking here President Ersin Tatar thanked the Honorary Consul of Northern Cyprus in Germany and the producer of the organization, artist Turgay Hilmi, for his contributions to the art sector and promotion of the country.

Noting that despite the political embargoes imposed, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has hosted many foreign artists and many successful Turkish Cypriot artists have represented their country by performing abroad, Tatar thanked all the artists who came to the TRNC for the concert.

Also speaking at the event the District Governor of Roth Region of Germany Ben Schwarz stated that they were pleased to be a part of the organization and thanked artist Turgay Hilmi for his work as an artist for the German Giants and the cultural ties he established between the TRNC and Germany.

At the end of his speech, Ben Schwarz presented Artist Turgay Hilmi with a badge of honour.

The concert ended with Kamran Aziz’s song “Kıbrısım” meaning My Cyprus.

The artists on stage along with those who came to the concert sang the song together.
