The 16th Once Upon a Time Luricina Fair organized by the Değirmenlik-Akıncılar Municipality was realized on Sunday at Akıncılar village.

The event started with a cortege followed by folk dance and modern dance performances.

After the performances, Mayor of Değirmenlik-Akıncılar Ali Karavezirler made a speech stating that Akıncılar is very important both for him and for the municipal council members.

He also drew attention to the problematic road between Ercan Airport and Akıncılar, and expressed the hope that road works will be completed soon.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Fazilet Özdenefe said that Akıncılar is historically and culturally important for the Turkish Cypriot people.

“There are things that can be done to prevent migration from the village and return it to its former glory” said Özdenefe and added that as the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), they have always supported the opening of new crossing border gates between the two sides and will continue to work towards this end.

President Ersin Tatar began his speech at the event by celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)

Pointing to the importance of Akıncılar village, Tatar said “Akıncılar has an important place in our history. There has been migration from here, but efforts are underway to keep the structure and culture of this place alive. The important thing is to keep the culture alive in this geography.”
