The Civil Defence Organisation is continuing to award service plaques to members of the public who have completed their compulsory service and have been discharged due to their age.
177 people working in the Girne region received their certificates and plaques on Thursday at a ceremony that took place at the Girne American University’s International Congress Hall.
Speaking at the ceremony the head of the Civil Defence Organisation Atilla Karaca gave information regarding the organisations activities and said that the public needed to become more aware of natural disasters and be prepared.
Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part pointed to the importance of the civil defence organization adding that it is a very important part of the state order.
The last speech was delivered by President Ersin Tatar.
He stated that the Civil Defence Organization is a very important institution of the country, and that the organization carries out scientific studies on national defence, search and rescue, minimizing loss of life and property in disasters by improving personnel skills, technology and technical infrastructure.
Noting that the most important feature of the institution is the people, who have become a part of the organization by being trained throughout the country over the years, Tatar stated that these people make very important contributions to the organization.
He stated that the organization’s ability to maximize its capabilities with the contributions it received from Türkiye and the TRNC was also seen in the earthquake disaster, Tatar emphasized the importance of the TRNC, which is a Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean and an observer in the organization of the Turkic States.
Emphasizing that being a state is not just about independence and sovereignty, it is also important to develop institutions, power and structure, Tatar stated that the TRNC has come to a stronger point with the contributions of motherland Türkiye.
