17th Avtepe Medoş Tulip Festival held on Sunday

The 17th Avtepe Medoş Tulip Festival organised jointly by Erenköy-Karpaz Municipality and Avtepe Mukhtar’s Office was realized on Sunday at the Avtepe Village Square.

The festival, which continued with various activities throughout the day, aimed to raise awareness about Medoş Tulip which is endemic to Cyprus.

Festivities kicked off with the arrival of the cortege to the village square followed by performances of folk dance teams and the handing out of plagues to the orgsanisers.

Avtepe Mukhtar Rezvan İnlen delivered a short speech at the opening of the festival stating that they had organized the festival in order to protect the Medoş Tulip, to pass it on to future generations and to raise awareness in this direction.

Erenköy-Karpaz Mayor Hamit Bakırcı for his part said that citizens are now aware of the medoş tulip and therefore the tulip is now protected.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu who also attended the festival stated that they will continue to contribute to all activities related to the survival of culture.

After the speeches were completed, poems were read, activities for children, dance performances and music concerts were realized.
