1st of August Communal Resistance Day to be celebrated

The 1st of August Communal Resistance Day will be celebrated with a variety of events in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The day marks the 47th anniversary of the establishment of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command (GKK), the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) and the 452nd anniversary of the conquest of Cyprus by the Ottomans.

According to a statement released by the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command, celebrations to mark the 1st of August Communal Resistance Day will take place throughout all cities in the TRNC.

On Tuesday the 1st of August at 6am, a 16km marathon will begin from the headquarters of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command at Boğaz and end at the Cyprus TMT Fighters Association.

Those who are successful during the race will receive their prizes at the premises of the Association.

Within the framework of celebrations wreath laying ceremonies will be realised at the Atatürk monuments.

At 10am a ceremony will be held at the Lefkoşa Martyrs Monument and at noon a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Cumhuriyet Park Monument in Lefkoşa.

A reception will also be held at the gardens of the Headquarters of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command at Boğaz in the evening.
