The 1st of May Labour Day, which is a day of unity, solidarity and struggle against injustice and celebrated by workers and labourers around the world, was marked on Monday.

On May 1, which is considered an official holiday in many countries as in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), a group of trade unions from the north and south, and members of the World Trade Union Federation, held a rally in the buffer zone with a slogan “Solidarity-Reunification-Social Justice”.

Participants of the rally gathered at Kuğulu Park in Lefkoşa before marching to the Çetinkaya field in the buffer zone.

A joint May 1 declaration from the two communities was read out at the rally.

It was stated that the global capitalist crisis has dramatically increased social and economic inequalities, and the consequences of the war in Ukraine worsened the already difficult situation for the workers.

It was also stated that the negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus Problem should resume from where they left off in Crans Montana. Songs were also sung by bi-communal musician at the event.
