The 20th Orchid Walk, which was carried out for the first time in 2003 by the Cancer Research Foundation (KAV) to raise cancer awareness and generate income for the foundation, took place in the Dilekkaya Forest.
Despite the rainy weather, attendance was high.
The 20th Orchid Walk that was organized by the Cancer Research Foundation in cooperation with the Süleyman Cengiz Eminoğlu Foundation CENGO-V and sponsored by TELSİM was held at the Dilekkaya Walking Track that is affiliated to the Değirmenlik Municipality.
President Ersin Tatar and First Lady Sibel Tatar, several ministers, organizations, associations and citizens all took part in the walk.
Speeches highlighting the importance of the day were made prior to the beginning of the walk.
President Ersin Tatar during his speech thanked everyone who took part in organizing the walks for the past 20 years and stated that cancer research was important not only for the people but also for institutions, organizations and the state.
Noting that his office supported scientific research, President Tatar said that these walks are proof of the importance they give to health.
“Walking once a year is not enough. We want to see people walking and taking part in sporting activities regularly. This is just one of the ways you can protect your health and be happy,” said Tatar.
Meanwhile Champion Angels t-shirts were sold at the KAV stand during the event, to show that those who lost their lives during the February 6th earthquakes in Türkiye have not been forgotten.
