Date Added: 24 April 2023

The 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day activities, which are celebrated in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus alongside Türkiye, began on Sunday with a speech by the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu on BRT.

Delivering a speech on BRT the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu reminded that the  23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is the only holiday gifted to all children of the world by the great Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

He said it was the duty of children, who live freely and independently on these lands, to improve themselves, to take their place among developed societies and to reach the level of contemporary civilisations pointed out by Atatürk.

“It should be known that the 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, which expresses independence and sovereignty, will continue to be celebrated with various activities in our country, at our foreign representative offices, at our institutions and schools. However, we dedicate this holiday to our citizens, brothers and children who lost their lives in the earthquake in Türkiye, respecting their memories, and carryout out the ceremonies in a simplified manner” said Çavuşoğlu.

He also called on the children not to forget that they are the future.

“In this context, your duty is to work hard for the protection and survival of our Republic, which is based on Atatürk’s principles, and for the development of our country in every field. It is our main duty to ensure that you live a happy life and secure your future” said Çavuşoğlu.

Meanwhile similar ceremonies were across the TRNC to mark the children’s day celebrations.
