The Chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry Ali Kamacıoğlu has said that the first 250 of the 1000 container homes the TRNC has pledged to build for earthquake survivors in Türkiye will be shipped off at the end of the month.
Speaking to BRT, Kamacıoğlu said that a container city will be set up in İskendurun to house those left homeless due to the earthquake.
He explained the fundraising campaign carried out by the Cyprus Turkish Solidarity Platform was the biggest project carried out by 47 civil society organisations to date.
Kamacıoğlu also drew attention to the country’s expertise in container homes pointing out that the TRNC’s largest export to South Cyprus was these types of homes.
“We have a monthly production capacity of 250 homes and we should be able to ship the first batch by the end of the month after the homes are installed with windows, kitchens, toilets and electrical wiring,” he said.
The head of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry also said that the homes will be delivered to Türkiye by the Transporters Association.
