The 2nd Furniture Fair organized jointly by the Furniture Industrialists Association and the Chamber of Industry opened its doors at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Culture Park Fairground on Thursday night.

Delivering the opening speech the President of the Furniture Industrialists Association Hüseyin Ciddi said that the furniture sector will always continue its investments in the country as a pride of the Chamber of Industry.

“Our sector has around 4 thousand employees, around 350 workshops and an annual capacity of €125m with its investments since 1974. The furniture sector is the largest industrial branch operating under a closed roof in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyrus (TRNC). The sector continues to develop itself day by day and continues to manufacture products in parallel quality with the world.”

The Chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry Ali Kamacıoğlu said that the furniture sector had become an important one as could be seen in the spike in exports to the south via the Green Line Regulation.

The Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu for his part said that fairs are one of the places that enable the industrial investment and production in the country to be seen.

He also said that the fair creates opportunities for the furniture sector to be more visible and appreciated.

Acting President Zorlu Töre for his part said that there are serious investments in the furniture industry in the TRNC and in the industrial sector in general.

“It is a great success that nearly a thousand industrialists are registered in the Chamber of Industry. It is also the duty of our state and government to protect the domestic industry and take it further” said Töre.

Noting that a society that does not produce will disappear, Töre expressed the hope that one day the Turkish Cypriots will not only produce and sell through the Green Line Regulation but also through direct trade.
