2nd Gonnara Festival takes place in Şirinevler

The 2nd Gonnara Festival or Jujube Festival organised on Sunday at the village of Şirinevler was scene to an array of colourful events.

In addition to the general public, state and government officials showed great interest in the festival.

Stands were set up, allowing those who visited the festival to try local delicacies and purchase handmade goods.

President Ersin Tatar and Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre were among those who visited the festival, chatting with citizens and visiting the stands.

Speaking at the event, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre said that gonnara or the jujube fruit is one of the products that best describes Cypriot culture, adding that the festival was extremely important as it raised awareness of the value of the product and transferred this knowledge to future generations.

Emphasizing that domestic production is crucial, Töre emphasized that a nation can fulfil the requirements of being a nation only as long as it protects domestic production.

He added that the festivals organized across the different areas of the country fulfil an important task in terms of promoting Turkish Cypriot culture and products to both tourists and new generations.
