3rd International Güzelyurt Art Meeting completed

The 3rd International Güzelyurt Art Meeting, organized by Güzelyurt Municipality ended on Sunday.

Held at the Güzelyurt Atatürk Cultural Center from July 21 to 28, the event featured 17 artists from Türkiye, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Russia, alongside Turkish Cypriot artists.

The resulting artworks were showcased at the Güzelyurt Municipality Exhibition Hall.

President Ersin Tatar attended the exhibition and emphasized that the artworks would serve as crucial bridges carrying Turkish Cypriot culture into the future.

In his opening speech, Curator Arif Albayrak expressed gratitude to the participating artists and Güzelyurt Municipality.

He expressed hope for the continuation of this meaningful event and announced support for a contemporary art museum project in Güzelyurt.

Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar shared his delight in hosting such an event, noting that different artists participate each year and that the artworks find places in various local venues.

Özçınar highlighted the municipality’s commitment to making the event more inclusive and community-oriented, and to establishing a contemporary art museum in the city.

President Ersin Tatar underlined the importance of maintaining an international art event in Güzelyurt.

He remarked on how the Turkish Cypriot community, despite facing isolation and human rights violations, is introducing itself to the world through a universal and contemporary language.

Tatar stated that creating, sustaining, and passing on art is invaluable for the TRNC, a country at the crossroads of cultures in the Eastern Mediterranean.

He noted that these artworks would act as significant bridges to preserve and forward the community’s culture.

Tatar also emphasized the value he places on such initiatives, highlighting Güzelyurt as a significant town poised to carry forward its legacy of agriculture, citrus production, art, and culture.
