3rd OIC General Assembly of Ombudsman takes place

Ombudswoman İlkan Varol has said that the Turkish Cypriot people are subjected to human rights violations and called on the international community to support the people in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Varol was addressing the 3rd General Assembly meeting of the Ombudsmen of the member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation as a full member.

Speaking at the “Information, Experience and Sharing Forum” that was realised alongside the general assembly, Varol said that the greatest problem experienced by Turkish Cypriots were the violation of human rights as a result of the embargoes, noting that young people, children, athletes and scientists were subjected to human rights violations.

She also stated that the international community should support the TRNC people.

Pointing out that the support of the international community is needed, Varol said, “Strength, knowledge and support are born from unity”.

She stated that young people are experiencing human rights violations abroad and athletes cannot participate in any activities or competitions due to the embargoes.
