The leader of the National Unity Party (UBP)-Prime Minister Ersan Saner said on Sunday that it was unacceptable for the Greek Cypriot administration to continue supporting EOKA which was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Turkish Cypriots.
He added that it will not be possible to achieve anything at the upcoming informal meeting in Geneva with this mentality.
In a written statement responding to the latest statements made by the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades on the anniversary of the creation of EOKA, Prime Minister Saner said that the Greek Cypriot leader’s remarks proved that the Greek Cypriots have still not abandoned their dreams of transforming Cyprus into a Greek island.
“It has become clear that the Greek Cypriot side intends to scrap Turkey’s unilateral right to intervene and that it will never accept our sovereignty or our political equality,” he said.
Saner added that the best thing for the Turkish Cypriot people to do was to uphold their state and sovereignty and to continue on their path with Turkey.
He concluded by stating that negotiating for a federal solution with the Greek Cypriots will be nothing more than a waste of time which will only chain Turkish Cypriots to the negotiating table.
