Ceremonies will be held throughout the week to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the second phase of the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation.

Celebrations will take place in Serdarlı, Gazimağusa, and Lefke, which were liberated during the second phase of the operation conducted from August 14-16.

Those who were martyred in mass killings will be remembered in Taşkent, Muratağa-Sandallar, and Atlılar Villages.

A memorial ceremony for the martyrs will also be held in Lefke.

Ceremonies are being held this week as part of events marking the 50th anniversary of the second phase of the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation.

A commemoration ceremony will take place this afternoon for the martyrs of Muratağa-Sandallar at the Muratağa-Sandallar Martyrs’ Cemetery at 5.30pm.

A second wreath laying ceremony will be held for the Atlılar Martyrs’ Cemetery at the site of the mass grave at 6pm.

A ceremony marking the anniversary of the liberation of Serdarlı will also take place this evening in front of the Serdarlı Atatürk Bust.

The martyrs of Taşkent will be remembered on Thursday with a ceremony at the Taşkent Martyrs’ Cemetery that will begin at 9am.

Two separate ceremonies will be held on the same day to mark Gazimağusa’a liberation.

The first ceremony in Gazimağusa will take place at 6pm in front of the Victory Monument, while the second ceremony will be at 6.25pm at İsmet İnönü Boulevard.

Celebrations marking the liberation of Lefke will be held on Friday, August 16th.

A memorial ceremony for the martyrs will be held at 6pm in front of the Lefke Kemal Özalper Martyrs’ Memorial, followed by the celebration of Lefke’s liberation at 6.45pm in front of the Lefke Atatürk Park.
