59th anniversary of Erenköy Resistance

One of the cornerstones of the Turkish Cypriot peoples struggle for existence, the Erenköy Resistance and the martyrs who lost their lives during that time will be commemorated with a ceremony at the Erenköy Martyrs Cemetery on Tuesday.

The 59th anniversary of the epic Erenköy resistance will be marked on Tuesday with ceremonies at the enclave village to the west of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

According to the statement made by the Director of the Protocol Department and Chairman of the Central Committee for the Celebration of National Days Asu Muhtaroğlu, the ceremony will start at 9am.

President Ersin Tatar, the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces, the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces, the Mayor of Erenköy-Karpaz Municipality and the head of the Erenköy Fighters Association will lay wreaths at the monument in line with the protocol.

A minutes silence will be observed and the flags will be raised to the national anthem.

The special book will be signed by President Ersin Tatar, the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces and the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces.

Speeches highlighting the importance of the day will also be delivered during the ceremony.

Commemorative events will come to end with the laying of flowers on the tombs of the martyrs and the recital of prayers.
