60th anniversary of Limassol Resistance
Date Added: 13 February 2024

It has been exactly 60 years since the Limassol Resistance.

The resistance of the Turkish Cypriot people in Limassol between February 10 and 13, 1964 during the years of the struggle for existence and those who were martyred in this resistance were commemorated today.

A ceremony was held at the Limassol-Girne Martyrs and Freedom Monument this morning.

Wreaths were laid, a minutes silence was observed and flags were raised to the reciting of the national anthem.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said that the Turkish Cypriots should know the value of their state, freedom, independence and the presence of Turkish soldiers on the island very well.

Noting that the President of Germany, who visited South Cyprus and the Green Line, used the discourse of “50th anniversary of the division of Cyprus and 35th anniversary of the unification of Germany by the fall of the Berlin Wall”, Töre said, “In Germany, the Germans united with the Germans, we are Turks, while the Greek Cypriots define themselves as Hellenic. The Berlin analogy is a false analogy. The President of Germany and the world should know this very well.”

He also emphasized that the reason why there are walls and borders in Cyprus is the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo’s love for Enosis.
