The 62nd Mehmetçik Grape Festival will take place on August 2 and come to a close on August 11th.
The Mayor of Mehmetçik-Büyükkonuk Municipality Dr. Fatma Çimen Tuğlu held a press conference at the Lefkoşa Municipalities Union Building regarding the 62nd Mehmetçik Grape Festival.
Sharing details about the festival which will start on the 2nd of August, Tuğlu said “Our aim in the festival is not only limited to entertainment and cultural activities, but also to contribute to the economic and touristic development of our region.”
She stated that the Mehmetçik Grape Festival has brought vitality to the economy of the region and contributed greatly to the support of local producers and tradesmen.
Tuğlu also noted that the Mehmetçik Grape Festival also aims to increase the cultural and touristic attractiveness of Mehmetçik and to make the region known worldwide.
Also speaking at the press conference, International Council of Organizations or Folklore Festivals and Folk Art (CIOFF) President Özlem Kadirağa said that Mehmetçik Grape Festival is a festival recognized by UNESCO.
The festival, which will include folk dances, modern dance performances, concerts, various sportive and cultural events, as well as the traditional Grape Vineyard to Table cooking competition, will also host a concert by Turkish pop singer Irem Derici concert on closing night which is August 11.
All events at the festival will be free of charge.
