Hatay is celebrating 84 years since it became part of the Republic of Türkiye.

President Ersin Tatar on Sunday issued a message on the occasion of the 84th anniversary of Hatay’s integration into Turkish territories.

“It is the 84th anniversary of Hatay’s integration into the territories of the Motherland Türkiye, which held such great importance for the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as he stressed to Hasan Rıza Soyak on January 8, 1937,” the president noted.

He said that Atatürk who had served in the Hatay and Syrian fronts three times, and as a staff captain from the War Academy in Damascus, knew the historical and strategic significance of Hatay.

“Thanks to Atatürk’s tremendous efforts, Hatay became a part of the Motherland and has evolved over the decades into one of Türkiye’s most esteemed cities, a city of ancient civilizations,” Tatar added.

Reminding that Hatay was one of the most affected provinces by the recent earthquake disaster that occurred on February 6, he said, “I believe that with the generosity of the Turkish people and the capabilities and resources of the Turkish State, Hatay will recover and return to its former state in the shortest possible time.”

“In the Turkish Century, I once again stress that the successes of our motherland as a global actor will have significant and positive reflections on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. I express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the accession of Hatay to our motherland, Türkiye,” Tatar added.
