Today is March 8, International Working Women’s Day.

A variety of activities and marches will be realized today to mark “International Working Women’s Day”, which was accepted by the United Nations in 1977 in order to develop the political and social awareness of women on the basis of their human rights.

Within this framework, some political parties and organizations will meet at Kumsal Park at 5.30 this afternoon and march to the parliament to say stop to “the imposed conservative policies”.

Then at 7.30 this evening, a bi-communal event will be held at the Solidarity House in the buffer zone.

The bi-communal event organized under the slogan “Together for Reunification, Equality and Solidarity” will feature some Turkish Cypriot political parties and organizations, the PEO Working Women’s Bureau and the POGO Women’s Movement.

Meanwhile the Cyprus Artists and Writers Association will commemorate poet Pembe Marmara.

The event will be realized at 7.30pm at the Işık Bookstore.

In line with the 8th of March International Working Women’s Day many events will also be held at universities.
