“Running for Justice” on Sunday

A marathon event is being organized in Gazimağusa on Sunday, April 7 in memory of the Champion Angels who lost their lives in the February 6 earthquake.

Gazimağusa Mayor Süleyman Uluçay and members of the Board of Directors of the Champion Angels Association visited President Ersin Tatar and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre inviting both to the event which will take place this Sunday under the theme “Running for Justice”.

The event is being held in memory of the Champion Angels, the 24 Turkish Cypriot children and 11 of their teachers and coaches from the Gazimağusa Türk Maarif secondary school who lost their lives in the February 6 earthquake in Türkiye when the hotel they were staying in collapsed.

Receiving the group, President Ersin Tatar said that the Champion Angels will never be forgotten and their memories will always be preserved through such events.

He said that it was unfortunate he could not attend because he was visiting New York on that date but assured that his heart would be there.

The delegation later visited the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre and invited him to the event.

Welcoming the delegation in the Honor Hall, Speaker Töre said that he would be attending the marathon.

He mentioned that it was impossible to erase the pain and suffering caused by the tragedy that struck on February 6, 2023.
