The General-Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBO), Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, has expressed concerns over the Greek Cypriot Administration’s decision to incorporate Israel’s Iron Dome air defence system into its own defence infrastructure.

Hasipoğlu described the move as dangerous, jeopardizing the stability of the island.

In a written statement, Hasipoğlu criticized both the Greek Cypriot Administration and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides for what he described as their dangerous actions, which are putting the overall peace and security of Cyprus at risk for the sake of political gain.

He emphasized that their moves are progressively compromising the stability of the island.

Hasipoğlu further pointed out that the administration’s latest actions, including its previous call for NATO membership, and now the integration of the Israeli Iron Dome into the Greek Cypriot defence system, clearly reveal their true intentions regarding Cyprus.

“On the one hand, the Greek Cypriot Administration claims to advocate for peace and a solution in Cyprus, presenting itself as a peace envoy to the UN and EU.

“However, with the addition of the Iron Dome, it has further contradicted itself and escalated its militarization,” he said.

He also questioned the administration’s motives, asking, “Who or what is the Greek Cypriot Administration planning to defend itself against by acquiring this air defence system?”
