Veysel Tipioğlu, Chair of the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s (TGNA) Security and Intelligence Committee, underscored the importance of good neighborly relations on the island of Cyprus and in the region, warning that any potential conflict could harm all parties involved.

Tipioğlu was speaking during his visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which included appearances on BRT’s “18th Hour” program.

During the program, Tipioğlu conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and reiterated Türkiye’s steadfast support for the Turkish Cypriot people.

He highlighted Türkiye’s efforts to promote the TRNC on the international stage through inter-parliamentary dialogue, emphasizing the aim of increasing its recognition globally.

Tipioğlu also recalled President Erdoğan’s call at the United Nations General Assembly for the recognition of Turkish Cypriots’ legitimate rights, affirming that Türkiye would continue to advocate for the TRNC on every platform.

In his remarks, Tipioğlu invited TRNC officials to Ankara to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expressed concern over South Cyprus’ ongoing militarization.

He stressed the need to resolve disputes through international law, warning that a potential conflict would negatively affect all parties in the region.

He reiterated that the Turkish Cypriots, as co-owners of the island, have rights over the surrounding seas equal to those of the Greek Cypriots.

He criticized South Cyprus’ unilateral actions since 2003, which disregard these rights.

Touching on Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s recent visit to the TRNC and its reactions in South Cyprus, Tipioğlu highlighted the constructive stance of the Turkish Cypriots.

He accused South Cyprus of undermining every initiative aimed at cooperation and reiterated that Türkiye remains vigilant regarding all developments concerning the TRNC and Turkish Cypriots.
