Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler expressed strong opposition to the latest activities by the Greek Cypriot Administration near the Turkish continental shelf, warning that such actions threaten regional peace and stability.

He reaffirmed the unwavering stance of both Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in protecting the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, stating, “We will not retreat even an inch from our rights.”

Speaking on a television program, Öztürkler cautioned against any actions that might undermine the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, emphasizing that Türkiye’s firm position should not be tested.

Referring to statements made by Türkiye’s Minister of Defense Yaşar Güler, he highlighted the clear and resolute message conveyed by Türkiye regarding the protection of Turkish Cypriot rights.

He reiterated that Türkiye, as a guarantor power, stands firmly with the TRNC on issues of security, energy, and continental shelf rights.

Öztürkler criticized the Greek Cypriot Administration for escalating tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean through military agreements and arms initiatives with countries like the United States, Israel, and France.

He noted that such actions contradict ongoing processes with the European Union and undermine regional dialogue.

“The value of Türkiye’s guarantorship and its support for the TRNC’s rights in security, energy, and the continental shelf is evident. The importance of the 1974 Peace Operation becomes clearer every day,” he added, underscoring the significance of preserving stability in the region.
