President Ersin Tatar reminded that the world has imposed unjust embargoes on the Turkish Cypriots, emphasizing their firm opposition to any agreement that would endanger the Turkish Cypriots simply because injustices are being committed.
“The existence of the Turkish Cypriots depends on the presence of the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish military in Cyprus,” said Tatar and stressed that no concessions would be made in the national cause, particularly against deceptions aimed at removing Turkish troops from the island, stripping Türkiye of its historical rights, and ending its guarantor status.
A reception was organized under the auspices of the Presidency, with the stakeholder Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality and in cooperation with the Prime Ministry and the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Trabzonspor winning the Cyprus Peace Cup.

Delivering a speech during the reception, President Ersin Tatar expressed his pride in hosting the guests from Trabzon.
Explaining that there has been peace, tranquillity and security in Cyprus for 50 years since Mehmetçik (Turkish soldiers) set foot on the island after the Cyprus Peace Operation, Tatar pointed to the ongoing conflicts and wars in nearby regions such as Gaza, the Middle East, and various parts of the world.
Stating that a sports embargo is imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people, President Tatar said that the world has done a great injustice, but that they are against a treaty that will put the Turkish Cypriot community in danger due to this injustice.
“The existence of the Turkish Cypriots depends on the presence of the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Armed Forces in Cyprus.”
He underscored that no concessions would be made in the national cause against deceptions, emphasizing that the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the island, the stripping of Türkiye’s historical rights and the termination of its guarantor status would never be allowed.
Stating that he would like to see the youth of the TRNC in Turkish teams, President Tatar called on the authorities in Türkiye to give opportunities to talented athletes.
He also expressed his belief that Turkish Cypriot youth would be successful in Türkiye if given the opportunity and commemorated Samsunspor footballer Mete Adanır, a Turkish Cypriot, who lost his life in a traffic accident on his way to a match.
Following the speeches, special plaques and the TRNC national team jerseys were presented to the stars of Trabzonspor and Turkish Cypriot Squad for the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Cup.
