Date Added: 30 January 2025

A delegation from the Republic’s Assembly consisting of the National Unity Party (UBP) MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu and the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Armağan Candan attended the General Assembly meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg.

While in attendance, Hasipoğlu and Candan delivered speeches on various topics.
National Unity Party MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu addressed the General Assembly meetings in Strasbourg and highlighted the issues faced by Turkish Cypriots, including the lack of domestic remedy for property issues and the arbitrary arrests of business people by the Greek Cypriot Administration.

Hasipoğlu urged the Council of Europe to take action to prevent these unjust arrests and called on the Greek Cypriot Administration to accept the authority of the Immovable Property Commission.

He also raised concerns about the excessive armament activities of the Greek Cypriot Administration, with support from countries like the US, Israel, the UK and France, and how this could negatively impact future cooperation talks.

Republican Turkish Party MP Armağan Candan for his part spoke at the General Assembly, emphasizing the need for sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, international support for reconstruction and a settlement process between Israel and Palestine.

Candan also provided updates on the Cyprus issue and called for a consensus-driven road map to be established at an upcoming international meeting in Switzerland.
