As part of preparations for the informal Cyprus meeting set to take place in Geneva in March, UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo toured the region and held talks in Türkiye.
DiCarlo met with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry shared details of the meeting on its official account on the social media platform X.
According to the statement, Bozay and DiCarlo discussed preparations for the expanded informal meeting on Cyprus, scheduled for March in Switzerland, along with various regional and international issues.
Diplomatic sources indicated that during the meeting, DiCarlo was informed of Türkiye’s full support for the new vision put forward by Turkish Cypriot President Ersin Tatar regarding the Cyprus issue.
Sources also stressed that the informal meeting in Geneva in March aims to discuss possible steps for the future of Cyprus, given the lack of common ground between the parties. However, they clarified that this meeting should in no way be considered “the start of a new negotiation process” or “a continuation of past negotiation efforts.”
