Program for next week’s broad-participation meeting in Geneva was announced

The United Nations (UN) has announced the details of next week’s broad-participation informal meeting on the Cyprus issue, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The 5+1 informal Cyprus meeting, hosted by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, will take place in Geneva on March 17-18 with the participation of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides, along with the three guarantor countries – Türkiye, Greece, and the United Kingdom.

According to an information note shared by the UN regarding the draft program, the expanded informal meeting will begin on Monday at 7pm Geneva time (8pm Cyprus time) with a dinner hosted by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for delegation heads at the Intercontinental Hotel. Each delegation head will be accompanied by one person at the dinner.

Before the dinner, the UN Secretary-General will take photographs with each delegation head.

The program will continue on the morning of Tuesday, March 18, at 10am Cyprus time at the Intercontinental Hotel with bilateral meetings between the UN Secretary-General and each delegation.

In the bilateral meetings with the Secretary-General, delegation heads will be accompanied by five people. The UN will directly coordinate with delegations to schedule these meetings.

Following this, at 12:30pm Cyprus time, the broad-format 5+1 informal meeting will commence at the UN’s Geneva Office with the participation of all parties. In this meeting, delegation heads will also be accompanied by five people.

The 5+1 informal meeting will begin with an opening speech by the UN Secretary-General, followed by statements from the delegation heads.

The information note also mentioned that the UN encourages each delegation to ensure the meaningful participation of women in their teams.

Before the meeting starts, a “family photo” will be taken.

The broad-format informal meeting is scheduled to conclude at 3:30pm Cyprus time.
