Greek media has praised President Ersin Tatar.
Greece-based Pentapostagma newspaper praised Tatar’s decisive stance on the two-state solution and said “The EU has surrendered to Türkiye’s power.”
The Greek daily Pentapostagma published a striking analysis of President Ersin Tatar’s stance on the two-state solution and the geopolitical importance of Cyprus.
The article drew attention to the fact that the Greek media was forced to acknowledge Türkiye’s influence on Cyprus and saw Tatar’s election victory as Türkiye’s strategic success.
The newspaper emphasized that Tatar’s re-election strengthened Türkiye’s hand in Cyprus and said, “Tatar is taking steps to change the status quo in Cyprus by protecting Türkiye’s interests.”
It noted that Tatar’s victory was a big win not only for Turkish Cypriots but also for Türkiye’s interests in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The article particularly emphasized Türkiye’s growing influence on Europe, saying: “Whereas before 2001 Türkiye was dependent on the European Union, today Europe’s security is dependent on Türkiye. Unfortunately, Türkiye’s rise in the fields of defense, energy and security has forced Europe to cooperate with Türkiye.”
Analyses in the Greek press, while openly acknowledging that Tatar’s policies affect the geopolitical balance in Cyprus, also stated that Türkiye’s presence in Cyprus is a critical element not only for Turkish Cypriots but also for the security of Europe.
Pentapostagma also stated that the two-state solution model in Cyprus is also supported by the public and used the following striking statements: “According to GENAR Research, 70% of Turkish Cypriots support a two-state solution and the opening of Maraş is widely accepted by the public.”
The Greek press was forced to admit that under Tatar’s leadership, Türkiye’s influence in Cyprus will grow even more.
While openly acknowledging Türkiye’s strategic superiority in the Eastern Mediterranean, Pentapostagma commented that “Türkiye is in a playmaker position in Cyprus. The two-state solution under Tatar’s leadership is Türkiye’s strategic success.”
