World Down Syndrome Day

Today, March 21, marks World Down Syndrome Day, and TRNC President Ersin Tatar issued a message emphasizing the importance of inclusion and equality for individuals with Down syndrome.

In his statement, President Tatar highlighted that “Down syndrome is not an illness but a difference. Being different is normal, and raising awareness while fostering sensitivity is essential.”

He underscored that ensuring the full and active participation of individuals with Down syndrome in all aspects of social life without discrimination is a fundamental duty. “Bringing a unique perspective to the world, individuals with Down syndrome deserve the collective effort of not just their families but society as a whole,” he stated.

President Tatar also stressed the significance of equal opportunities in education, emphasizing that no child should be left behind. “One of our key goals is to ensure that children with Down syndrome are not marginalized from society and that they receive education under equal conditions, just like other children.”

He concluded by expressing his appreciation for families, educators, and professionals dedicated to supporting individuals with Down syndrome, saying, “Life is more vibrant and meaningful with them. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who work selflessly to help our children hold on to life with equal rights.”
