The Speaker of Parliament Öztürkler stressed the great significance of the Azerbaijan-TRNC friendship group and the official visits that have begun.

The closing event of the Turkic World Nevruz Festival was held.

In his speech at the event, Speaker of Parliament Ziya Öztürkler reminded that Nevruz was one of the oldest and most meaningful holidays of the Turkic world and expressed that having guests from Türkiye and Azerbaijan provided an opportunity to share common culture and spiritual bonds.

“As the descendants of the same ancestors and brothers who struggle under the same flag, we come together to keep our culture, history, and spirituality alive. These types of events are not just political meetings but gatherings that strengthen emotional ties, cultural solidarity, and shared values” Öztürkler said.

He also highlighted the importance of meeting with the Chairman of the Azerbaijan-TRNC Friendship Group, the Chairman of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Friendship Group, and the Chairman of the TRNC-Türkiye Friendship Group at the same event, further strengthening bonds of friendship.

Öztürkler reiterated that the formation of the TRNC-Azerbaijan friendship group and the official visits that have started hold great significance for them.

President Ersin Tatar, for his part, stressed the importance of organizing Nevruz celebrations in the TRNC, highlighting the shared history, emotional connections, national unity, and solidarity among the peoples.

Reminding that these ties had existed for centuries, the President stressed that the Turkish Cypriots had fought great struggles with the support of their motherland, Türkiye, lived with honour, and continued to move forward with confidence toward the future.

Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriots now had another motherland, referring to Azerbaijan, Tatar noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had officially invited and hosted him after the Karabakh Victory, despite international pressures and political games.

Stressing that this official visit was a significant step in elevating the TRNC’s status, President Tatar recalled Aliyev’s statement, where he said, “With my invitation, a step is being taken toward the recognition of TRNC’s independence.”

He reiterated that Azerbaijan will recognize the TRNC when the time comes, marking an important milestone.

Stressing that the Turkish Cypriots had always fought for their fundamental values—independence and freedom, Tatar underlined that they continued to live with honour, without falling under anyone’s control or oppression, in a manner befitting the history and legacy of the Turkish nation.

The program concluded with performances of folk dances and songs by artists from the Turkic world.
