Hasipoğlu: Geneva Summit has been a good starting point
Date Added: 25 March 2025

The General Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBP) Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu appeared on a BRT live broadcast to discuss current issues.

Addressing the concerns about the removal of mixed voting, Hasipoğlu said, “There is no such thing as mixed voting being introduced due to an early election.”

Regarding the Geneva Summit, Hasipoğlu stressed, “We will continue cooperation for the benefit of our people. The UN is also determined on this matter. From this perspective, the Geneva Summit has been a good starting point.”

During the BRT live broadcast, the General Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBP) Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu responded to questions about the mixed voting system, recalling that steps were taken toward its removal in 2023.

Hasipoğlu stated that efforts to remove mixed voting began in 2023, with the proposal recently passing the parliamentary committee and set to be presented to the general assembly soon. Dismissing claims that the move is linked to an early election, he emphasized that the only upcoming election is the Presidential Election and that reform is necessary.

Evaluating the Cyprus Summit in Geneva, Hasipoğlu pointed out that the Greek Cypriot side persistently tried to keep federation on the agenda, while the Turkish side’s firm stance had further distanced discussions from a federal process.

“We will not sit at the table for a comprehensive solution unless our sovereign equality and equal international status are recognized. We have never compromised on this, and we never will. A new chapter has now begun, and in this new chapter, there is no federation. What has been achieved here is the beginning of an agreement on cooperation. We will never abandon the table and will continue cooperation for the benefit of our people. The UN is also determined on this matter. From this perspective, the Geneva Summit has been a good starting point” Hasipoğlu said.
