Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Ziya Öztürkler, condemned the Greek soldiers in Athens for chanting the slogan “Cyprus is Greek,” stressing that such claims were nothing more than empty dreams.

“They should abandon the dream of an agreement without Turkish soldiers and Türkiye’s guarantee. Türkiye’s guarantee and the presence of Turkish soldiers are our red lines,” Öztürkler stressed.

Drawing attention to South Cyprus’s ongoing Enosis dream, Öztürkler said, “Cyprus has never been Greek, and we will not allow it to become Greek.”

Condemning the Greek soldiers in Athens for chanting “Cyprus is Greek,” Öztürkler reiterated that such claims were nothing more than empty dreams.

“They should abandon the dream of an agreement without Turkish soldiers and Türkiye’s guarantee. Türkiye’s guarantee and the presence of Turkish soldiers are our red lines,” he stressed.

Criticizing South Cyprus’s armament efforts, Öztürkler said, “While they demand the withdrawal of Turkish soldiers from the island, both Greece and South Cyprus continue to arm themselves and bring foreign forces to the island. Given these realities, it is no one’s place to demand the withdrawal of Turkish soldiers.”

Evaluating the Geneva process, Öztürkler noted that the TRNC and Türkiye had introduced a new, coordinated political approach.

“Today, the reality of two peoples and two states must be accepted by South Cyprus and the international community,” he said, reminding that it was South Cyprus that walked away from the negotiating table during the Annan Plan and Crans-Montana processes.

Reaffirming their commitment to protecting the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, Öztürkler stressed that South Cyprus must abandon these illusions.

Speaking about the six-point consensus reached in Geneva, the Parliamentary Speaker stated that cooperation on issues such as electricity, water, and natural gas would bring common sense to the table.

Noting that a sustainable agreement had not yet been reached, Öztürkler highlighted the importance of good neighborly relations.

Noting that joint efforts could be made on vital issues like electricity and water, he added that a significant step could be taken regarding electricity supply from Türkiye via cable.

Öztürkler also pointed out that cooperation could extend to areas such as education and border crossings.

Reminding that delegations would reconvene in July and that the discussions would continue beforehand, he added that they would all see the outcomes of the process together.
