MFA: The Greek/Greek Cypriot mentality has not changed
Date Added: 02 April 2025

Tuesday was the anniversary of the start of armed actions by the EOKA terrorist organization.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, evaluating the celebrations and messages published in the Greek Cypriot Administration on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the EOKA terrorist organization on April 1, stressed that the Greek Cypriot mentality had not changed over the years.

In its statement, the Ministry said, “We call on the Greek Cypriot leadership, which seeks to instill its hegemonic mentality in younger generations, to abandon this mistake and to make its people accept the current realities on the island.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the messages published and celebrations held by the Greek Administration and Greece on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the EOKA terrorist organization revealed that there has been no change in the Greek/Greek Cypriot mentality regarding Cyprus policy from past to present.

In a written statement, the Ministry pointed out that events were decided to be held in schools in Greece to mark the anniversary of EOKA, adding that, following the increasingly provocative messages, a Greek Member of the European Parliament stated that the demonstrators’ slogan “Cyprus is Greek” was correct because “Cyprus is Greek.”

The statement further stressed that the Greek/Greek Cypriot duo, which has long considered itself the sole owner of the island and views the Turkish Cypriot people as a “minority community” rather than equal co-owners, did not seek a settlement.

“Instead, their sole aim is to pressure the Turkish Cypriots into submission through intimidation policies and force them to accept ‘minority’ status” the statement added.

The Ministry’s statement also included the following remarks:

“The Greek Cypriot leadership, which has no sincerity in its so-called calls for an agreement, continues to fuel hostility towards Turks instead of urging its people to act with common sense. By poisoning young minds with seeds of enmity and using the education system as a tool for its dirty politics, it is causing irreversible damage and further deepening the trust gap between the two communities on the island” the Ministry statement said.

“We call on the Greek Cypriot leadership, which seeks to instill its hegemonic mentality in younger generations, to abandon this mistake and to make its people accept the current realities on the island” it added.

Stressing that the sole reality of the island of Cyprus was the existence of two separate states and two separate peoples living side by side, the statement further stated that a sustainable and peaceful future could only be achieved through the recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of these two peoples and their respective states.
