The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) held an event to celebrate its 1,000th meeting.

President Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides conveyed messages of cooperation at the event.

The two leaders expressed their support for the CMP’s efforts to end the long-standing uncertainty for the families of missing persons.

The Committee on Missing Persons, consisting of Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot, and Third Member (United Nations) representatives, held its 1,000th meeting at the Ledra Palace Hotel on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the committee, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of Mission Colin Stewart, representatives from the EU and UN Development Program, and all staff from the committee’s three offices gathered at the event to celebrate the milestone.

President Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides prepared messages to be shared with CMP staff on the occasion of the 1,000th meeting.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to the CMP’s operations and welcomed the achievements of the committee so far, expressing gratitude to the staff for their dedicated efforts.

Encouraging the continuation of the bi-communal efforts that have helped bring closure to the families of missing persons after years of uncertainty, the leaders also called on the public to share any information they might have regarding individuals listed as missing by the CMP.

To date, a total of 1,052 missing persons—both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots—have been identified and returned to their families for proper burial.
