Leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman evaluated the leaders’ meeting.
Erhürman stressed that every step taken under UN supervision to foster a climate of resolution is crucial in connecting the past to the future.
The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman commented on the meeting held in the buffer zone between President Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot Administration Leader Nikos Christodoulides.
In a statement on social media on Wednesday, Erhürman highlighted that despite being framed within confidence-building measures, the meeting was significant as it brought together the two community leaders as equals.
Recalling past scepticism over the establishment of a “bi-communal youth committee,” Erhürman said, “Previously, it was said that such a committee couldn’t exist. We asked, ‘Why not?’ And now, we see that it has happened.”
Reiterating his longstanding argument that interconnecting Cyprus to Europe through Türkiye was a far more rational and economical solution than the Great Sea Interconnector project involving Greece, Cyprus, and Israel, the CTP leader noted that such a development would significantly contribute to the resolution process.
Stressing the importance of this issue, Erhürman stated that while there has yet to be concrete progress on crossing points and solar energy investments in the buffer zone, diplomacy and dialogue were always beneficial.
Reaffirming his stance, Erhürman underlined that every step taken under UN supervision to develop a climate of resolution was of utmost importance in bridging the past with the future.
