
Ahmet Mithat Berberoğlu, the founding leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), was commemorated at his gravesite on the 23rd anniversary of his passing.
The ceremony took place at Berberoğlu’s resting place in Girne’s Karaoğlanoğlu Cemetery, with attendees including CTP Leader Tufan Erhürman, Girne District Chair and MP Ongun Talat, several other MPs, Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, and members of Berberoğlu’s family.
Speaking first at the event, CTP Girne District Chair Ongun Talat highlighted Berberoğlu’s role as a crucial figure in representing the self-governance aspirations of Turkish Cypriots and paving the way for political progress.
Speaking on behalf of the family, his daughter Ayşen Berberoğlu expressed their deep respect and longing for her father, emphasizing his unwavering efforts for the political existence of the Turkish Cypriots and his leadership based on strong principles.

CTP Leader Tufan Erhürman also paid tribute, recalling that Berberoğlu fought not for personal gain but for the benefit of society.
He noted that Berberoğlu and his colleagues established the first political party of Turkish Cypriot people, the Republican Turkish Party.
Erhürman further described Berberoğlu as a significant figure in the democratic history of Turkish Cypriots, stating that his principles continue to illuminate their path forward.
