The main opposition, Republican Turkish Party (CTP), held its 29th Ordinary Congress on Sunday.

At the congress, where the current leader Tufan Erhürman was the sole candidate, Erhürman’s candidacy for the Presidency – which had been approved by the CTP Party Assembly – was also confirmed.

“Are you ready to be my companions on this path? If you are on this path, I am too. If you are going to walk this path, I will walk it with you” Erhürman said.

The main opposition Republican Turkish Party held its 29th Ordinary Congress on Sunday at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Sports Hall.

A chairing committee was formed at the congress, and the financial and activity reports were read out and approved.

At the congress, where current leader Tufan Erhürman was the only candidate, his candidacy for the Presidency – approved by the CTP Party Assembly – was also confirmed.

Speaking at the congress, CTP Leader Tufan Erhürman said that this journey will be taken together, growing stronger day by day, closing ranks, and walking alongside the people.

“Are you ready to be my companions on this path? If you are on this path, I am too. If you are going to walk this path, I will walk it with you,” Erhürman said, stressing that a great duty and responsibility had been given to him, that such responsibility cannot be carried alone, that one person cannot fulfil all the duties, and that companionship on this path is valuable.

“A solution will come with the will of the Turkish Cypriot people. If there is going to be a solution in Cyprus, it will be a federation based on political equality, bi-zonality, and bi-communality” he said.

CTP leader Erhürman stated that if he becomes President, he would frequently meet with the Greek Cypriot leader over coffee and meals, stressing that the priority would be to open crossing points.

He also added that they would also discuss the rights of children born from mixed marriages, the Direct Trade Regulation, and many other issues.

Meanwhile, the Party Assembly was also elected at the 29th Ordinary Congress of the CTP.

A total of 1,401 members cast their votes in the election, where 128 candidates competed.

As a result, 75 members were elected to the Party Assembly.
