The Chairman of the Great Unity Party (BBP) in Türkiye, Mustafa Destici, stressed that the decision by Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan to open embassies in South Cyprus has caused great disappointment.

Destici stated that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) must be fully accepted as a member of the Organization of Turkic States.

Speaking at a press conference held at his party’s headquarters, the Chairman of the Great Unity Party (BBP) Mustafa Destici reacted to the move by Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan to open embassies in Southern Cyprus.

“It is truly unfortunate on their part and a major disappointment for us that three member countries of the Organization of Turkic States have not officially recognized the TRNC, and instead appointed ambassadors to the Greek Cypriot Administration” Destici said.

He called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives within the Organization of Turkic States to urgently convene a meeting, stressing the need to seriously communicate the sensitivity of this issue from the perspective of Türkiye and the Turkish nation to all member states.

“The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus must be definitively accepted as a full member of the Organization of Turkic States” Destici stressed.
