Turkish VP in the TRNC for one-day trip

Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz is paying a one-day visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) today.

Yılmaz who arrived in the TRNC this morning held a joint press conference at Ercan Airport with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel before embarking on his contacts.

Speaking to reporters, the Turkish Vice President underlined Türkiye’s continued contributions to infrastructure and institutional development in the TRNC.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has announced that 2025 will mark a year of major developments and rising prosperity for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), thanks to the recently signed ₺21bn Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement with Türkiye.

Üstel said the funding secured through this agreement will allow for the launch of long-anticipated projects and will significantly enhance the country’s welfare.

Speaking about upcoming developments, Üstel emphasized that critical progress will be made in the healthcare sector this year.

A new hospital will begin construction in Lefkoşa, while the Girne Hospital, Güzelyurt Hospital, and Maraş Health Centre will all be opened to the public.

In transportation, he confirmed that several major projects will be completed by year-end, including the Lefkoşa cloverleaf junction, the Karpaz Road, the Çatalköy–Girne Road, and the Değirmelik–Girne Mountain Road.

Üstel also highlighted that the new Presidential Complex and Parliament Building will soon be inaugurated.

“These two monumental buildings will symbolize the deepening roots of our state,” he said.

Reaffirming the unshakable bond between Türkiye and the TRNC, the Prime Minister noted that mutual respect, affection, and cooperation are creating a powerful synergy.

For his part, Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz reiterated his country’s firm commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), highlighting that the Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement signed on March 21, 2025, offered a valuable opportunity to enhance economic, financial, and trade relations while improving the quality of life for Turkish Cypriots.

Yılmaz outlined the day’s schedule, which included the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation Donors Medal and Presentation Ceremony, which he attended at noon.

He also mentioned the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony for the TRNC’s new High Court Building, which is set to reinforce the rule of law and judicial independence in the region.

Additionally, Yılmaz will visit the ongoing construction of the TRNC Parliament and Presidency Complex, which is expected to symbolize the Turkish Cypriot people’s long-standing struggle.

Further, Yılmaz emphasized the significance of an upcoming meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum.

The meeting will focus on urban development, infrastructure investments, and improving the quality of life in the TRNC, with specific attention to translating the provisions of the Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement into tangible urban projects.

Another key highlight of the visit will be the launch of the new Lefkoşa State Hospital, which will address critical healthcare needs in the region, alongside the renovation of the existing Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital.

Yılmaz expressed Türkiye’s pride in contributing to TRNC’s healthcare infrastructure, enhancing access to high-quality health services for the Turkish Cypriot population.

In the afternoon, Yılmaz will meet with local stakeholders, including business representatives, to discuss the TRNC’s private sector agenda.

He stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations to foster economic growth.

Yilmaz and his accompanying delegation are expected to depart from the TRNC later tonight.
