A new chapter in TRNC’s healthcare sector began with the launch of the Lefkoşa State Hospital project, announced during a ceremony attended by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.

The project, realized through cooperation between the Turkish and TRNC health ministries, will feature a 50,000-square-meter facility with 320 beds, 110 intensive care units, 80 outpatient clinics, 12 operating rooms, and advanced diagnostic and treatment infrastructure.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said the project marks the beginning of a healthcare transformation, highlighting that 2025 will be a breakthrough year in health.

He noted the initiative follows the recent signing of the 2025 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement with Türkiye.

Üstel also cited progress on other major projects including new hospitals in Girne and Güzelyurt, the renovation of Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital, and the development of new health centres in Maraş and Değirmenlik.

“From now on, we will no longer need to send patients abroad—we will receive quality care at home,” he said.

Turkish Vice President Yılmaz called the new hospital “a vital and hopeful step” for Lefkoşa and confirmed construction would begin shortly.

He emphasized Türkiye’s continued support for the TRNC, pointing to the 21 billion TL investment outlined in the new agreement.

President Ersin Tatar also underlined the importance of the project for the country’s health infrastructure and its strategic location, noting that it will significantly strengthen the TRNC’s healthcare system and support future growth in health tourism.
