Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Ziya Öztürkler, issued a strong statement condemning the social media remarks made by Türkiye’s Presidential Chief Advisor Oktay Saral against Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.

Parliamentary Speaker Ziya Öztürkler described the comments as disrespectful and offensive, warning that such rhetoric undermines political dignity and harms the values of the community.

He stressed that attacks against an elected leader are not merely personal but represent a direct insult to the will of the people.

“Everyone in public office must bear the responsibility that their position entails,” he said, adding that Saral’s remarks fell outside the bounds of political courtesy and damaged the integrity of the institutions they represent.

Emphasising unity, Öztürkler declared that the Turkish Cypriot people would continue their path without allowing such attacks to strain relations with Türkiye.

“We will not let our unity and solidarity be undermined by divisive rhetoric,” he concluded.
