
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has extended his condolences following the passing of Nükhet Gönyeli, widow of Martyr Lieutenant Caner Gönyeli, a Turkish Cypriot officer who was martyred aboard the TCG Kocatepe during the 1974 Peace Operation.
In his message, Prime Minister Üstel expressed deep sorrow over her death and conveyed his sympathies to her family and loved ones.
According to a statement by the family, Nükhet Gönyeli passed away in Ankara and will be laid to rest at Lefkoşa Cemetery following the noon prayer held today at İsmail Safa Mosque.
Nükhet Gönyeli had long been a symbol of remembrance, attending the annual Search and Rescue Exercise organized by the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command in memory of her husband, keeping his legacy alive in the Eastern Mediterranean.
