
Construction has officially begun on the Dipkarpaz–Monastery road, in collaboration between the Turkish Republic Highways Directorate and the TRNC Highways Department.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı attended the ceremony marking the first day of the construction work.
Addressing the event, Minister Arıklı stressed that the Dipkarpaz–Monastery road should have been built many years ago, saying that the beginning of construction had corrected a long-standing shortcoming.
He also pointed out that during their term in government they have rehabilitated village roads that had been neglected for 50 years.
For his part, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stressed that they had been fulfilling all the projects they promised during their nearly three-year term in office, one by one.
Highlighting their goal of leaving behind lasting works and improving the well-being of the people, the Premier underlined the importance of the road now under construction.
Prime Minister Üstel thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, stressing, “The governments of two brother countries, united by deep-rooted historical ties, are working together – all for the happiness of our people.”
The Dipkarpaz–Monastery road which is expected to be completed within 4 months will be 18 kilometres long and 6 to 8 meters wide.
