A commemoration ceremony was also held for Dr. Fazıl Küçük, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for freedom and existence at the Atatürk Cultural Center, in the capital Lefkoşa on Sunday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Fazıl Küçük’s granddaughter, Selen Süheyla Küçük stated that she was proud to be the granddaughter of a person who devoted his life to a cause without expecting any benefit and said “sleep in peace, my grandfather, your people will never forget you.”

The leader of the Turkish Cypriot people’s freedom struggle, Dr. Fazıl Küçük was commemorated on the 39th anniversary of his death with a program held at Atatürk Cultural Center.

The ceremony started with a minutes silence and the recital of the National Anthem. Later, the late leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük’s granddaughter Selen Süheyla Küçük delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Selen Süheyla Küçük said that she was proud to be the grandchild of a man who devoted his life to a cause without expecting any benefit.

“As a result of the struggle waged by my grandfather and his colleagues, we live freely in our own lands. As a result of the struggle, he passed away in peace, having witnessed the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). My grandfather wanted the struggle he fought with his colleagues to be passed on to future generations, and the Turkish Cypriot people do this very well. Sleep in peace, my grandfather, your people will never forget you” she said.

After Selen Süleyha Küçük’s speech, the commemoration program ended with the songs of the Bülent Ecevit Anadolu High School choir and an oratorio.
